Lovely Rainbows

Gooooooood morning

After an absence of almost 2 years I am back and what a way to get back into things.

Sharen Thumboo has arranged an awesome blog hop and the theme is rainbows. Rainbows are not just colourfull but they are also a symbol of rain and seeing as I live in Cape Town and we are currently experiencing very strict water restrictions, we can use a lot of rainbows in our lives.

So if you have followed the hop from the beginning, you should of have arrived here from Helen Duffett site.

So here is my take on my rainbow card. I did not use the shape of a rainbow but rather the colours.

I bought this balloon die some time ago and fell in love with it but as with so many things, I put it away. Finally I had a good reason to use it. I used some cardstock in the 7 rainbow colours (a good use for those small pieces of cardstock that is sometimes thrown away).

The die cuts has little "tail" but I cut that off as I wanted to add some silver thread. After I cut that off I added a piece of silver thread and tied them all together to look like a bunch of balloons.

I used a normal size white card base and added a piece of cloud patterned paper, this was the perfect backdrop for my balloons.

I used a small piece of vellum as background for my sentiment. I stamped it with Versa Mark embossing ink and covered it with white embossing powder.

An that is as they say "THE END". Please leave a comment and be sure to visit the other blogs as many of them has some giveaways.

Please hop along and catch more rainbows. Your next stop on the blog hop is Margaret Kieser. Here is the complete hop list, hope you find your rainbow.

Simply Gorjuss cards

Good afternoon

Here in Cape Town it is hot, hot, hot. Our spring has finally arrived. I am so happy that the winter is gone and we will only "see" it again next year.

Over the past view days I have made 3 cards, I made it from my awesome prize that I have won. I have not made anything to awe inspiring as I have followed their instructions on these cards. My mind is already thinking about a pop-up box card as well as some step cards.

My first card.

A close up off the card. I have used some dimensional glaze on the mushrooms, truffle an stripes of her hat and arms.

My second card.

Close up.

My third card. I love the frame on this picture, it looks so old and classy.

Another close up.

That is it from me for today. Have a great evening.

Awesome Simply Gorjuss prize

Hi all.

Hope you have all been well. It's been a while since I have last posted anything. With the little one being two years old now I hope to be back here more frequently.

Last week I was informed that I was the lucky winner of a competition that was on Facebook. The sponser was The Wholesaler. Wednesday my prize was delivered and needless to say I was blown away. In my wildest dreams I could not imagine the prize. When I commented on the competition it said that the prize is a hamper of some Simply Gorjuss goodies. I thought it would be something like one stampset and some paper. Oh boy was I wrong.

Here is some pictures of my prize.

My whole dinning room table was coverd .

There are some ribbon, buttons and tissue paper.

Some of the stamp sets, there is a total of 13 stamp sets.

Some decoupage packs.

Some of the other stamp sets and some of the paper.

I am still so overwhelmed with it all, but I have started to make some cards.  I will share some later today or tomorrow.

Thank you for visiting and have a great rest of your Tuesday.

Hugs,
Marika

New stamps

Good afternoon

I hope that you are doing well and are enjoying the week so far.  I have been spoiled by my husband as he bought me some stamps that has been on my wishlist for a long time.  These are my very first Hero Arts stamps and also my very first flower stamps. I have had some flower stamps in mind as all the stamps that I own might be considered as "child friendly". I have had requests to make cards that feature a more "grown-up" feeling, hence the flower stamps.  I bought these from a very lovely lady called Shamela from Kanje Krafts and Kreations, her service is excellent and her prices are very good.

So here is 2 pictures of my  4 new stamps.

I have coloured some of the stamped images.  The pink flower is not finished as I want to add a brad to the middle when I make the card.

My kids had a 3 week holiday and as my craft room is separate from the house, I did not get to spend much time in there during their holiday, so I packed my copics and stamped images and brought them into the house and spend a little time colouring them.  Since school started today I am hoping to finish the cards during the week.... or next week. So here is a sneak peak at my coloured images, I really need to practice my colouring.

So that is it from me. Thank you for staying and seeing what I have been up to.  I am really excited about my new Hero Arts Stamps.  Please leave a comment, I love to hear from you.

Hugs,
Marika

Is it a plane or is it a butterfly? No it is a little baby boy.

Good afternoon

It has been such a long time since I have posted anything, I had to first familiarise myself with how to make a new post.

I know that I made a new years resolution to do at least one post a week and it has been a few weeks since my last post. Actually more like a few months. Sorry about that, as usual life got in the way, but this has been a very nice part of life that has been in the way, it has taken the form of a new life. Yes we are expecting our third child and we have just found out that it is a little boy.

I am hoping that now that the 2nd trimester has started that I will have more energy. The first few weeks did not seem to go well for me, the morning sickness was not so bad it was more the lack of energy that got to me. I just could not get going until after 11 in the mornings and then I still had to do house work and then it was time to get the kids from school and with the oldest in grade 1 now, we had to make extra time for homework. The craft room was closed for so long I had to move the plant out, it was starting to die. But last week I opened it up, cleaned it out and even had a go at doing some crafting and oh joy, how I have missed my "me time".  I cannot promise to craft often but I am sure going to do my best.

Now onto my little project.  I made a birthday card for a friends whose mom is turning 80 years old.  Wow I think that is just so great, turning 80.

A close-up of the flowers.

A close-up of the 80.

Thank you for staying and reading my post.  Hopefully it will not be so long before I do a post again.  Keep well and to those living in South Africa, keep warm.

Marika

Summer Flower Tilda

Good Morning

I hope that you are all doing well and that you have recovered from the hectic start to the year, it seemed that every person I spoke to have had a very busy start to 2013.  Saying that I cannot believe that we are in February already.

Today I want to share a card that I made about 2 weeks ago, today is the first time that I actually have time to sit in front of the computer to type up a post.

This is Summer Flower Tilda, I stamped her on Kraft paper and then coloured her with some water coloured pencils.  It was nice to use them for a change.

I added allot of flowers, it seemed fitting as she is called Summer Flower Tilda.

A close-up of my Tilda, is she not a beauty.

For a change I added a sentiment with some flower brads to complete it.

Thank you for reading, please leave a comment and if you are not a follower, please become one if you like what you see.

Have an awesome day.

New Years Resolution - FAILED!!!!

Good Morning

Firstly I would like to welcome my new followers, I love having new followers and I love reading your comments.

Then I would like to apologize   In my previous post I made the resolution to post at least one post a week from the beginning of the New Year and oh boy.......... have a failed.  I am not one for making New Years Resolutions but as it seemed like a good idea at the time and I hoped that it would force me to spend more time doing something that I love and enjoy, I made it. However I have a good reason for not keeping it, SCHOOL HOLIDAY.  Here in Cape Town our kids are only returning to school tomorrow, the 16th of January and they have been at home for almost 6 weeks.  Any women that have ever been a mother or that have looked after kids, will understand that keeping 2 small kids (my son is 6 and my girl is 5) entertained for 6 weeks is a full time job (that is not taking into account all the other house work, organizing our Christmas dinner etc, etc, etc).

Yes we have spent a few hours in my craft room, but it always seem that we end up doing things and making things that they want to.  My projects were moved over for making decorations for the Christmas Tree or making face masks or painting or colouring a picture.  So needless to say, I have not done anything that I wanted to.

But as of tomorrow that will not happen any more...... or at least I hope so.  The kids are starting school and they will be gone until 13h00.  I am hoping to spend at least one hour a day in my craft room.  But enough about that now.  Yesterday I was granted a hour or so to have leave from my work as being a mom, I was abel to spend it doing what I love....... making something.  I decided to make a card and that is what I would like to share with you.

So here is my card, there was no time to colour an image or make something to fancy or complicated, but I loved the end result.  Everything that I used on this card except for the lace at the bottom was a gift from a fellow blogger Sharon, thank you so much, I love all my goodies.

A close-up of the lace.  The lace had little holes in it and I just used some blue cord and then thread it through the holes.

I love this little stamp, I know that I will use it a lot in the coming day.

So that is it from me, for now.  Tomorrow we have a very big day ahead of us as our little boy will be starting his first day in the "big" school, he will be going to Grade 1.  In South Africa our kids wear school uniforms and it is a big thing for us as parents when the kids start in Grade 1, they seem to be starting on a new phase in their lives, they are becoming "big" now ( I will have to share a photo or two or three with you as I am very proud of him going off to the "BIG SCHOOL").  The little one will also start tomorrow, she will be starting Grade R, that is the Grade just before heading off to the "big" school.

I greet you from a sunny Cape Town and wish you a pleasant day.

Hugs,
Marika

Pewter Card

Good Afternoon

I want to share a birthday card with you today that I made for my Sister-in-law.  She is a no frilly person, she loves the plain and the no nonsense and for me that is quite a challenge as I love to make cards with a stamped image and lots of bling and embellishments.  But seeing that I love her so much and that she has been so good to us, especially since we have moved down to Cape Town, I just had to make her something that I felt was still something very "me".  Some of you might know that I love to work with Pewter. So I made her this card with a Pewter topper, very plain and no "nonsency" (not sure if you get a word like that).

So here it is, I also used a background paper that is not to busy and the silvery flowers went very well with the Pewter. Very plain and simple.

A close-up of the Pewter topper.

I have made only one New Years resolution (I do not tend to make any, not because I do not keep them, but I usually forget about them), well my New Years resolution that I made is that I will be posting at least once a week.  That will force me to make more "me-time" for crafting and since we have settled in nicely into the house, I do not have any more excuses to not do more crafting (that is except for the fact that I am trying my hand at renovating our place myself - and that is precisely the reason that I have not been blog so frequently, but that is another story for another day).

So seeing as I will be chatting and posting more frequently from next year, I will say goodbye for now and "see" you later.

Hugs,
Marika

Cute Chunky Book Challange

Good Afternoon

Recently I participated in a challenge on a stamping group that I belong to.  The challenge was to make a cute page that could then be binded together with the other participants creations.  In the end we had to make 17 pages and that in itself was a challenge as I have never made so many of the same layouts.  I did however use different stamps on each page, but kept all the rest the same.

Now that we have received back our binded book, I can finally share my pages that I made.  I will not go into detail about each page.  I have used Magnolia stamps on all my pages as I do think that Tilda and Edwin are just the cutest.

So here are my pages.

The first 2 photo'sare of all the pages together.

Some close-ups.

This was my favourite one.

Thank you for coming over for a visit.  Please leave a comment, I so love to hear what you have to say and if you have never before visited me, please become a follower.

Have a great day.

My Birthday

Good Morning

This morning I am not going to do a post about any of my cards, today I want to show the lovely cards that I received on my Birthday which was on Saturday the 3rd of November.  I was fortunate enough to spend the morning with some very talented craft ladies at the monthly open day that is hosted by Amanda Harrod.  These ladies made me feel so special and I really enjoyed the morning.

I just wanted to thank each and every one of these ladies.  Here are a photo of their cards, in no specific order.

  Amanda Harrod

  Debbie Harris

  Gail Grant

  Lee-Ann Teale

  Lynn Cupido

  Shamela

As you can see these ladies are very talented, I have not been making cards for so long and they all have something to teach me.  Now I just have to find a way to keep these together as I would like to have them displayed.

Have a great day and keep safe.

Just a quick one

Good Morning

Today I am just going to share a quick post with you.  We are in the proses of moving to our new house and I am not sure when I will be able to craft again.

I made this card a while ago and I used a card topper that I received as a freebie with a magazine.

A close-up of the topper.

Thank you for the quick pop-in, I do appreciate it.  Please feel free to leave a comment.

Have an awesome week and I hope to post soon.
